Papaye verte

Old-house turned restaurant.

Sarah’s Response:

I would love to take my parents here. This restaurent was most definitely an old house and has been converted into a nice place to eat. It has a very homey feel to it with a comfortable amount of space. Our sommelier was great, our food plentiful, and service was outstanding. Maybe I haven’t been to a lot of Thai places, but I love how all the staff are dressed in rich Thai attire.

Drinks: We were eating spicy foods, so of course we had to go with my favorite, the Reisling. This was my first time having a bottle of German Riesling and I fell in love. It was a little sweet but went perfectly with the spicy meals we had ordered. We drank the bottle quickly to say the least, haha.

Appetizers: Pla Muke Yung is grilled calamari served with a sweet chili peanut sauce. Steve and I split this. It was very yummy and had a nice spice to it without being too hot.

Entree: My Kai Pad Med Mamuang is stir-fried chicken with cashews and vegetables. This was very hot and on the menu it only had 1 little hot chili sign next to it. The spice didn’t wreck the meal though. The meal came with A LOT of rice. This was good because as well as tasting great it filled me up as well. The meat was tender, the veggies crisp and altogether it went along very well. I couldn’t have picked a better taste combination.

Desserts: I had a very lovely coconut sticky rice which was very similar to rice pudding that my mom used to make with raisons. The sticky rice was sweetened with the coconut and a hint of mango and spices. I thought I might have been sick of rice after my main meal but this proved to be a new and refreshing taste which was thoroughly enjoyable.

Top 3 Things to Rave About

1) The sommelier helping us make the perfect wine selection with our spicy meal.

  1. 1)The ‘costumes’ that the staff were wearing and the decorations made for a very nice Thai ambiance and I forgot that we were in an old house.

  2. 2)The prices. For what we got, and how everything went together nicely, and how the spice was never too hot, the price was perfect.

Dislikes: Too much rice? Perhaps the fact that I didn’t try the soup, and everybody else dining did. It smelled delicious and I dislike the fact that I did not try it.
