Sarah & Steve

Our quick decision to head down the street for a satisfying meal. Great choice. My rabbit is below.

Sarah’s Response:

Nice atmosphere. When we went I thought it was a Thursday or Friday and I just remember the restaurant fairly empty. We were one of three tables being served.

Drinks: 2006 French Riesling. We splurged and got the bottle. For a Riesling it wasn’t my favourite. I don’t want to critique this too much because the restaurant can’t really change the taste of a French Riesling so I like it. I’ll stick to ordering German or Ontario Rieslings when I can. In the long run, we should have ordered a red wine, but we were thinking short term with the shrimps and the spicy Pineapple salsa.

Appetizers: We weren’t very hungry when we went to Par-Fyum and decided to split an appetizer. This consisted of four shrimp coated in a spicy-sweet pineapple salsa on a bed of greens. We honestly didn’t know if we were supposed to eat the greens or not! This was pretty good for sharing as all we wanted was a taste test. The flavors here were really blended well with the spice and sweet of the salsa. Really interesting.

Entree: I had the rabbit. This isn’t my first time having rabbit, but this was probably the best rabbit I’ve ever had (sorry Mom and Dad!). I remember the rabbit as being moist, almost juicy and of course very tender. The caramelized onions were a great and simple hit with me, same with the asparagus because it was so fresh. The pasta was a nice touch with a little coating lemongrass butter. It was a mild change from the flavorful rabbit. Very nicely done.

Desserts: If Par-fyum was around still, I’d most definitely show up just for dessert and nothing else (and this isn’t because the rest of the food is bad!). I’m a little biased because I find French desserts really are my weakness, but when they’re done to perfection I’m left almost speechless. Steve’s dessert one me over for presentation and the chef even advised him which chocolate he should start with first, but my dessert wins for satisfaction. Orange-lemongrass Creme Brulee. Just perfect.

Top 3 Things to Rave About

1) Desserts. Finely presented and taste wonderful. Compliments the meal lovely.

  1. 1)The service. At some restaurants I feel out of place. The server treated me and Steve with just the right amount of information and attention as we required (which can be a lot) and made us feel very comfortable.

  2. 2)The ambiance. I don’t know how to describe the decor, the layout was neat, and I’d love to hold a nice party there. It looks perfect for that mid to large size function. For Steve and I it was very romantic and soothing.

Dislikes: Ummm... Probably my main dislike 4 months after visiting is that Par-Fyum is now closed. Everything else was pretty well done so that 4 months later nothing bad has stuck with me and I have no complaints except I wish it could come back!
